Egusi Soup in Winnipeg

(5-star Google reviews)

Egusi is the soup that defines Nigerian cooking for many people, and ours is thick, nutty and generous. Ground melon seeds are simmered with palm oil, peppers and leafy greens until the soup takes on its signature texture, then finished with assorted meat and served with your choice of swallow.

About Our Nigerian Egusi Soup

Egusi takes its name and its character from ground melon seeds. Toasted and blended, they thicken the soup into rich, savoury clusters with a gently nutty flavour that no other West African soup quite matches.

We build the base with palm oil, blended peppers, onions and traditional seasoning, then fold in the egusi and let it steam so it sets into those familiar soft lumps. Leafy vegetables go in at the end for colour and freshness, and the pot is finished with assorted meat or fish.

Every order arrives with a piece of swallow – eba, fufu, pounded yam, wheat or semovita – and a piece of meat, so you get the complete traditional serving.
