About Our Nigerian Jollof Rice

Jollof rice is West Africa’s most famous rice dish, and at Village Pot we cook it the traditional Nigerian way. The base is a blended stew of ripe tomatoes, red bell peppers, scotch bonnet and onions, reduced slowly in oil until it darkens and sweetens. Only then does the parboiled long-grain rice go in, so it absorbs the sauce instead of simply being coloured by it.

The pot is finished low and slow, which is where party jollof gets its signature smoky base note. Every plate is served with a generous piece of protein – stewed goat meat, chicken, beef, turkey or fried croaker fish – and a side of coleslaw or sweet fried plantain.
